Kashmiri Chai (Pink Tea) is also known as Noon Chai. Kashmiri Chai originates from the valley of Kashmir. It has a rich and creamy flavor. A kehwa (base of tea) is made of green tea leaves. Then kehwa is boiled with milk and sugar to make the tea. Traditionally it was prepared with salt but people have starting adding sugar giving it a richer taste.

 Kashmiri Chai Recipe

Ingredients For Kehwa ( Tea Base):

  • Water 4 cups
  • Green tea leaves 4 tsp
  • Star anise 1
  • Cloves  3-4
  • Cardamom seeds crushed ½ tsp
  • Salt ½ tsp or to taste
  • Baking soda ¼ tsp
  • Chilled water 2 cups

For Kashmiri Tea:

  • Milk 2 & ½ cup
  • Almonds crushed ½ tbs
  • Pistachio crushed ½ tbs
  • Sugar to taste (optional)
  • Kehwa 4 tbs or as required
  • Almonds crushed for garnishing
  • Pistachio crushed for garnishing


Kashmiri Chai ( Pink Tea ) kehwaIn a sauce pan, add water, and all the kehwa ingredients except chilled water bring it to boil.

Let it Simmer for 25-30 minutes until it reduces to half. Then add chilled water and mix it for 10 minutes and cook it more for 5 minutes.

Turn of the flame and strain the liquid, Your kehwa is ready and can be stored for around 2 weeks.
